Israel Holds Memorial Service for Soldiers Killed in the Yom Kippur War (Second Coming Watch Update #891)

This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #891. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Israel National News, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at the memorial service for the soldiers killed in the Yom Kippur War, at the Herzl [HER-ZEL] Memorial Hall in Jerusalem, and addressed the Iranian security challenge to the State of Israel. “The current focus of aggression in the Middle East is the Iranian regime in Tehran. Iran is striving to tighten its grip on Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and the Gaza Strip. It is constantly arming its metastases with dangerous weapons and is attacking freedom of navigation in international shipping routes. It downed a big U.S. UAV, it launched a crude and unprecedented attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields, it repeatedly exceeds its own arrogance,” Netanyahu said. He continued: “Iran threatens to wipe us off the map. It says explicitly: ‘Israel will disappear.’ Time and time again, it tries to attack us, so we must stand ready to protect ourselves from the danger. “We don’t aspire to be ‘a people who dwells alone,’ but that’s how we were forced to stand at the beginning of the Yom Kippur War – that only nearing the end of which did American aid arrive. As in 1973, we still greatly appreciate U.S. support, which has increased greatly in recent years, as well as the tremendous economic pressure the U.S. is exerting on Iran,’ Netanyahu noted.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, Iran launched an unannounced large military exercise near the Turkish border soon after Ankara invaded Syria to confront a mostly Kurdish group. Turkey started its invasion of a narrow strip of Syria where the Syrian Democratic Forces had been protected by the US, until Washington announced that it was pulling US troops out of Syria. While most of the controversy has been about the US betrayal of its five-year alliance with the SDF, potentially leading to Turkey being able to devastate SDF forces and any civilians in the area, Iran’s actions signaled a new side to the developments. Although Iranian Maj.-Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi [AB-DUL-RAH-HEEM MOO-SUH-VEE] said the army’s forces are fully prepared to counter “any possible movement of the enemy,” projecting the exercise as defensive in nature, Iran has frequently used military power in recent months in an aggressive manner.

Third, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Israel National News, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged the elite Islamic military force of the country to prepare against the “enemies.” Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps should continue inventing and building modern and advanced military hardware, Khamenei was quoted as saying by Press TV. “You must have all necessary defense, operational and intelligence equipment. However, these instruments must be manufactured and developed at home and meet all the needs of the country on the ground, in the sky and space as well as at sea and borders. Even the cyberspace is among the necessary instruments,” he said. The IRGC needs to “keep moving forward in tactical and strategic strengths, operate with constant alertness and readiness, and avoid even a moment of neglect,” the Iranian supreme leader added.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of ARAB HOSTILITY TOWARD ISRAEL — According to The Jerusalem Post, Kais Saied [KAYS SAHY-EED], who was recently voted in as Tunisia’s next president, expressed opposition to normalizing ties between his country and Israel. “This is my view on the Zionist entity and it will not change. If one day I change my mind, remind me about the things I said now. We are in a situation of war with Zionism, and normalization is treachery,” said Saied in a televised interview. The president-elect said he viewed Jews and Zionists differently. “The Jews visit Tunisia; we protected them in the Second World War,”he said. “But whoever normalizes relations with the Zionist entity that stole the land of the Palestinian people and exiled them from their land, is a traitor.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION OF BELIEVERS — According to Voice of America News, As the Turkish military and its allied Syrian rebels continue their operation against U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in northeast Syria, Christian communities in the region fear that the Turkish-led offensive is threatening their very existence in the war-torn country. On the first day of the Turkish offensive, a Turkish artillery attack reportedly targeted a predominately-Christian neighborhood in Qamishli [KAH-MISH-LEE], the largest city in northeast Syria. According to local sources, several residents were wounded. The Virgin Lady Church in the town of Qahtaniya [KAH-TAH-NEE-YAH], near Qamishli [KAH-MISH-LEE], was also hit by Turkish shelling, local news said. Parts of the building were destroyed. Boris Zilberman, Director of Public Policy and Strategy at the CUFI Action Fund, an American Christian organization that advocates for the protection of Christians in the Middle East, said: “Turkey’s invasion not only endangers the Kurds, but also endangers a Christian minority that has for years feared a Turkish invasion that would ‘cleanse’ its presence in northern Syria. The casualties we have seen thus far and the targeting of Christian areas only reinforces those fears.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 35:18-19 which reads: “And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you: Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Jeremiah 35:1-19 is an eschatological passage that mentions the Rechabites, a branch of the Kenites, a clan of the Midianites from which Moses’ in-laws came. Their ancestors advised them to live a life of migration rather than settlement and live off of flocks instead of plantings. This was a commitment the Rechabites kept, and they moved to the city only temporarily due to the threat of invasion by Babylon. This is then contrasted with the Israelites’ failure to keep their commitment to the Lord. Verses 18-19 tells us that because of the Rechabites’ favorable commitment to a vow, God promised that the house of the Rechabites will always have descendants who will be among the elect, and furthermore, from among them, some will be chosen to be priests in the messianic kingdom. Isaiah 66:18-21 prophesied that there would be Gentile priests in the messianic kingdom, and among these Gentile priests will be the descendants of the Rechabites.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from John Bunyan. He said, “At the day of Doom men shall be judged according to their fruits. It will not be said then, did you believe? But, were you doers or talkers only?”

Let’s Pray

***

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.

Kurds Begin Withdrawing as Turkey Invades Syria (Second Coming Watch Update #890)

First, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Times of Israel, US-backed Kurdish-led forces in Syria said American troops began withdrawing Monday from northeast Syria ahead of a Turkish invasion that the Kurds say will overturn five years of achievements in the battle against the Islamic State terror group. The Syrian Kurdish fighters also accused Washington of failing to abide by its commitments to its key allies in the fight against ISIS. It’s a major shift in US policy. The American withdrawal came just hours after the White House said US forces in northeastern Syria will move aside and clear the way for an expected Turkish assault — essentially abandoning Kurdish fighters who fought alongside American forces in the years-long battle to defeat ISIS.

Second, today, under the Sign category of INCREASE IN KNOWLEDGE — According to WND.com, Google is developing an all-knowing, “god-like” artificial intelligence that employees describe as the “AI Manhattan Project,” according to a former engineer for the tech giant who has become a whistleblower. “They’re trying to create a control grid that captures all the information – video, audio – wherever you’re at, streams it back to a centralized data repository, and then this god-like AI is able to figure out what it is that you’re doing, who you’re associating with, and create a shadow Facebook profile that you don’t know exists, but exists for them,” said Zach Vorhies [VOR-HEEZ] in an interview with American Family Radio. Vorhies [VOR-HEEZ] said Google will be able “to monitor everything that you’re able to do: your real-time information, who your friends are, who your family members are, everything.” He contends Google effectively is developing something akin to China’s social credit system, which forces people to conform to politically correct behavior and speech. “They’re trying to install the Chinese social credit system so that everything that you do is monitored – and then if you start to do anti-government activities, then you become ‘un-personed’ online,” he said. “You have your social media accounts suppressed, your financial instruments start to be cancelled – you can no longer take money online.”

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE RISE OF THE KINGS OF THE EAST — According to Space Daily, Russia is aiding China in building a missile defense system able to counter ballistic and cruise missiles, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed. “We are now helping our Chinese partners to create a missile-warning system, a missile-attack warning system,” Putin said at the Valdai [VAHL-DHAY] Club foreign policy conference in Sochi [SAW-CHEE] on Thursday. “This is a very serious thing that will dramatically increase China’s defense capability, because only the U.S. and Russia have such a system now.” He added that international strategic stability was weakened by the United States’ withdrawal in August from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. The United States has accused Russia of violating the treaty, and has called for China’s inclusion in a new or renewed treaty, an idea rejected by China.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED SEXUAL IMMORALITY — According to WND.com, an Employment Tribunal in the United Kingdom has ruled that the biblical doctrine that people are created male and female is “incompatible with human dignity” and those who follow it can be fired from their jobs on that basis. The stunning decision came in a doctor’s challenge to his dismissal from his job for failing to use female pronouns for a man. David Mackereth, 56, argued he “holds to the principles of the Great Reformation of the 16th Century including a commitment to the supremacy of the Bible as the infallible, inerrant word of God as his final authority in all matters of faith and practice.” He said he believed in the truth of Genesis 1:27, which says human beings are born male and female. The panel, however, ruled that “belief in Genesis 1:27, lack of belief in transgenderism and conscientious objection to transgenderism in our judgment are incompatible with human dignity and conflict with the fundamental rights of others, specifically here, transgender individuals.” The panel ruled the Bible is “mere opinion.” The Christian Legal Center said the judgment “will have serious ramifications for Christian professionals and indeed all medical professionals, as the judgment dictates the language that professionals must use in the workplace. The judgment is also contrary to scientific reality and is likely to undermine freedom of speech in the workplace.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Tehran Times, Major General Hossein Salami [HO-ZANE SA-LAM-EE], commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, warned Iran is ‘invincible’ on the battlefield, building on his previous claims of special ‘hidden’ military powers of destruction. The general made his remarks while addressing a group media on the sidelines of a ‘martyr’s’ memorial event. He said: “We have become powerful, because we have been invincible and, at the same time our enemies have been weakened and their options have become really weak. It is evident that the enemy no longer has the capability; once it wanted to act and force us to react, but today, the enemy is not even capable of reacting to our capabilities and this reality is seen today on the battlefields.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 33:23-26 which reads: “Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the Lord hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them. Thus saith the Lord; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Once again the word of God comes to Jeremiah because of what is being said about the two families he has been dealing with, the families of David and Levi. God asks Jeremiah, “Have you not observed what this people have spoken” about the two families? The Gentile nations were saying that while God did choose the house of David and the Levitical priesthood, God has now cast both of them away. In saying this, the Gentiles were despising God’s people. The implication is that the Gentiles were saying Israel will no longer be a nation after Babylon has conquered the people. It is because of what these Gentile nations were saying about Israel that this new prophecy comes to Jeremiah.

Verse 25 begins with yet another impossibility: Here again God refers to the “covenant for day and night.” Only if someone can break the cycle of day and night can God’s covenant be broken. God also refers to “the fixed patterns of heaven and earth,” or the natural laws that control the universe. Only if God is not responsible for them can God’s covenant be broken.

After pointing out that it is impossible for any man to break the covenant of day and night or to cancel out God’s natural laws, God then states in verse 26 that it’s impossible that He should “reject the descendants of Jacob and David My servant.” Because no man can cancel out the natural laws of the universe, no one can stop God from making sure that a descendant of David gets to rule over “the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” This is a reference to the Abrahamic Covenant, a covenant confirmed through Isaac and Jacob that defines Jewishness: A Jew is any descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The promise is that is will be a descendant of David who is going to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And because of the Messiah’s eternality, because He lives forever by virtue of His resurrection, we can know this promise will one day be fulfilled.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from Billy Sunday. He said, “The Lord does not come to the world at the time of the Rapture, but only reveals himself to the members of His Body. At the time of his resurrection He was only seen by those who believed on Him. Pilate and the High Priest, and those who crucified Him, did not know that He was risen. So it will be at the time of the Rapture. The world will not know that He has been here, and will have no knowledge of Him until He comes with the members of His Body, at the close of the Tribulation.”

Iran Says Destroying Israel is Achievable (Second Coming Watch Update #889)

This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #889. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.

First, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the AFP, the commander of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that destroying Israel was now an “achievable goal.” Four decades on from Iran’s Islamic revolution, “we have managed to obtain the capacity to destroy the impostor Zionist regime,” Major General Hossein Salami [HOS-SANE SA-LEM-EE] was quoted saying by the IRGC’s Sepah [SEP-AH] news site. “This sinister regime must be wiped off the map and this is no longer … a dream [but] it is an achievable goal,” Salami [SA-LEM-EE] said. The remarks were made at a biannual meeting in Tehran for commanders of the IRGC amid rising tensions between Iran and the US and its allies. Iran has been on edge, fearing an attack on the country over a drone-and-missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s oil industry earlier this month attributed to Tehran. Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have claimed the attack, but the US alleges Iran carried out the assault.

Second, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION OF BELIEVERS — According to Christianity Today, Islamic extremist group Boko Haram released a video showing the execution of two Christian aid workers in Nigeria. Lawrence Duna Dacighir [DOO-NA DAH-SIH-GEER] and Godfrey Ali Shikagham [SHEEK-AH-GAM] both members of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Plateau state, are shown kneeling while three masked, armed men stand behind them in a video posted September 22 on Boko Haram’s Amaq news agency site. The two young men, who had gone to Maiduguri to help build shelters for people displaced by Islamic extremist violence, are then shot from behind. Speaking in the Hausa language, the middle one of the three terrorists says in the video that they have vowed to kill every Christian they capture in revenge for Muslims killed in past religious conflicts in Nigeria. Dacighir [DAH-SIH-GEER] and Shikagham [SHEEK-AH-GAM], originally from Plateau state’s Mangu [MANE-GOO] County, were captured by Boko Haram, now called the Islamic State in West Africa Province, as they carried out their work in displaced persons camps.

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE RISE OF THE KINGS OF THE EAST — According to The Washington Post, military planners in Washington and elsewhere will be taking note of new missile technology displayed by China, particularly a hypersonic ballistic nuclear missile believed capable of breaching all existing anti-missile shields deployed by the U.S. and its allies. The vehicle-mounted Dong Feng 17, or DF-17, was the standout among weapons showed off at a military parade on Tuesday marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese state. Those also include the Dong Feng 41, or DF-41, an intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 15,000 kilometers — China’s longest-range weapon — that could reach the United States in 30 minutes. The DF-17 hyper-glide vehicle can be launched from a missile and once separated can reach more than five times the speed of sound, according to analysts. That speed, and its use of multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles, a technology known as MIRV, to deliver its warheads makes it far more difficult to detect and intercept. Some analysts have called the missile a threat to regional stability because its speed allows far less time to determine whether to fire nuclear weapons in response.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to VOA News, health experts are warning the world to prepare for a major pandemic. But the experts say they just do not know when it will strike. A special health monitoring group gave the warning to world leaders last week at the United Nations General Assembly. The group is called the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board. It operates independently of the World Health Organization and the World Bank. The board was set up last year to prepare a yearly report on the possibility of a pandemic. The first report was frightening. The group said the next pandemic could move around the world in as little as 36 hours. It said the disease could kill up to 80 million people and cause serious economic losses. The Global Preparedness Monitoring Board also said conflict between nations and forced migration both increase the likelihood of diseases spreading. It urged countries to establish emergency preparedness from the local level on up, to build trust and to work to improve the way medical experts react to serious health threats.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Times of Israel, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday issued further threats against Israel, saying the Lebanese terror organization’s “unprecedented levels of intelligence” would soon lead to its fighters “entering occupied Palestine.” In an interview series published this week on the website of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Nasrallah boasted of the terror group’s intelligence capabilities. “We have extensive, unprecedented information on all the events that happen to the enemy, both by public and secret means,” Nasrallah said. “We have very good information. In various ways, Hezbollah obtains the necessary information for any future war or military action on the part of the Israeli enemy. The enemy is on the defensive — we have always been on the defensive, now we are in attack mode. We are threatening them, and we will enter occupied Palestine,” Nasrallah said. Hezbollah is seen by Israel as one of its most dangerous enemies, with an arsenal of rockets and missiles larger than that of most countries.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 33:19-22 which reads: “And the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

The word of God comes again to Jeremiah in 33:19 with a special message that appears in verses 20-22: It is impossible to break God’s covenant. Only if it were possible to break the covenant of day and night could God’s covenant with David be broken. But because that is impossible, it’s also impossible for God’s covenant to both houses to be rendered null and void.

Jeremiah then concludes by speaking of the multiplication of the houses of David and Levi in verse 22. Just as “the host of heaven cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured,” so will the seed of David and Levi be multiplied. In other words, the house of David will grow large. This promise is not limited to the fact that David has one eternal descendant, the God-man, Jesus the Messiah; this promise extends much further than that. David will have so many descendants that they will become innumerable. And what is true of David is also true of Levi. Levi will have so many descendants that they, too, will become innumerable. These things are guaranteed because God’s covenant is an everlasting one.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from Charles Spurgeon. He said, “To be despised and rejected of men is the Christian’s lot. Even among his fellow Christians, he will not always stand in good repute. It is not unqualified kindness or total love that we receive, even from the saints. If you look to Christ’s bride herself for your reward, you will miss it. If you expect to receive your crown from the hand of your brothers in the ministry who know your labors and who ought to sympathize with your trials, you will be mistaken. “When the Son of man shall come in his glory” is your time of recompense— not today, tomorrow, or at any time in this world. Reckon nothing that you acquire, no honor that you gain, to be the reward of your service to your Master; that dividend is reserved for the time “when the Son of man shall come in his glory.””

Iran says they could destroy Israel in ‘Half a Day'(Second Coming Watch Update #888)

First, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Breaking Israel News, Iran is no longer limited by its geographic borders, and has the ability to destroy Israel in “half a day,” said Iranian Ayatollah Ahmad Alamolhoda [AY-AH-TOE-LAH AH-MUHD ALLA-MOHL-HOH-DAH]. Alamolhoda [ALLA-MOHL-HOH-DAH], the representative of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei [AY-AH-TOE-LAH AH-LI KHO-MEE-NEE], said during a televised sermon that the Islamic Republic was no longer defined by its borders, as the Popular Mobilization Units in Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, the national front in Syria and Islamic Jihad and Hamas in Gaza “are Iran.” He went on to state that if Iran’s borders were trespassed, Israel would be “turned to dust in half a day,” and confirmed that Iran played a role in the Sept. 14 drone and missile attack on the Abqaiq [AB-KAAK] and Khurais [KOO-REES] oil fields in Saudi Arabia.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Washington Post, President Trump has approved the deployment of additional U.S. troops and air defense assets to Saudi Arabia, in a muted military response to last week’s attack on Saudi oil facilities. At a news conference following a White House meeting with Trump, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper emphasized that the deployments were defensive in nature, and in response to requests from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to help protect “critical infrastructure” from further attacks by Iran. Word of the deployments, coupled with an announcement of new economic sanctions, indicated that despite Trump’s initial “locked and loaded” response to the attacks — and the urging of some advisers — he does not plan U.S. military retaliation.

Third, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & DISEASES — According to The Washington Times, six states have reported a record number of infections of Eastern equine encephalitis, a mosquito-borne virus blamed for seven recent deaths. Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and North Carolina have reported 27 cases of the disease — the largest number of infections since 2005, when 21 cases were recorded. “EEE is one of the most dangerous mosquito viruses that we have here in the United States,” said Lynn Sutfin, spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Catherine Brown, the state epidemiologist for Massachusetts, said: “Despite any and all mosquito control interventions that have been used, EEE infected mosquitoes are still present and will continue to present a risk until the first hard frost. It is critical that people continue to take steps to avoid mosquito bites particularly by using mosquito repellent anytime they are outdoors and avoiding outdoor activities between the hours of dusk and dawn in the highest risk areas.”

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Times of Israel, as the US, European powers, and Saudi Arabia accuse Iran of being responsible for an attack on key Saudi oil facilities, Iran’s most senior military commander warned that any army invading his country will be defeated and taken captive. Addressing an open session of parliament, armed forces chief of staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri [BA-GHER-EE] claimed potential enemies fear Iran’s military might and therefore have resorted to economic warfare instead, an apparent reference to strict US sanctions squeezing the country. “We have repeatedly warned the enemies that if they invade this country, they will be treated like the American drone and the British oil tanker, and that the result of this invasion will be captivity and defeat,” Baqeri [BA-GHER-EE] said.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Jerusalem Post, the Israel-Palestinian conflict is the “core conflict” in the Middle East and has done more “global damage” than any other conflict in the world, Jordan’s King Abdullah said at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. “Neither side has achieved the durable peace that a secure future depends on, and regional and world stability has continued to pay the price.” Abdullah said that “segregation, force, displacement, violence and mistrust do not belong in this Holy Land.” Referring to Jerusalem, he said that “all attempts to alter the legal status of east Jerusalem, and the authentic, historic character of the Holy City of Jerusalem” must be rejected. Abdullah’s tough words on Israel, coming as the two countries are set in a month to mark 25 years since their peace agreement, followed an interview he gave warning that Israeli annexation of the West Bank would have a “major impact” on ties between the two countries.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 33:14-18 which reads: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness. For thus saith the Lord; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

The second promise of perpetuity relates to the house of Levi. Two facts are stated about the tribe of Levi. First, it will never become extinct. Descendants of this tribe are still alive today. Second, the tribe of Levi will have a role in the millennial temple. Part of their role is spelled out by Ezekiel 40-48, where Ezekiel points out that they will be the caretakers of the temple. One segment of the tribe — the sons of Zadok, the Zadokites — will be in charge of the sacrificed system. They will always be around “to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from Oswald J. Smith. He said, “We talk of the Second Coming [of Christ], half the world has never heard of the first.”

Russia urged to destroy new land-based nuclear missile (Second Coming Watch Update #877)

1. NATO urged Russia this week to destroy a new missile before an August deadline and save a treaty that keeps land-based nuclear warheads out of Europe or face a more determined alliance response in the region.

2. Russia has dispatched several warships, including one of its newer missile frigates, to Cuba in a bid to bolster the floundering regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.

3. Palestinian officials have dismissed proposals unveiled by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner for big money projects to form the first economic portion of the Trump administration’s long-awaited Middle East peace plan.

4. More than 5,000 people have been forced to flee their homes after a volcano erupted in a remote part of Papua New Guinea’s West New Britain.

5. Israeli officials believe Russia is responsible for disturbances to the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal covering the airspace at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:33-34.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from A.W. Tozer. He said, “This is the kind of age and hour when the Lord’s people should be so alert to the hope and promise of His coming that they should get up every morning just like a child on Christmas morning—eager and believing that it should be today!”

Tensions Rise Between Iran & the US (Second Coming Watch #875)

First, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, the U.S. military released a video that it said showed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard removing an unexploded mine from one of the oil tankers targeted near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, suggesting Tehran wanted to hide evidence of its alleged involvement. Iran denied any role in Thursday’s apparent attacks, which have again roiled the Persian Gulf amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over the unraveling nuclear deal with world powers. Four other oil tankers off the nearby Emirati port city of Fu-jai-rah suffered similar attacks in recent weeks, and Iranian-allied rebels from Yemen have struck U.S. ally Saudi Arabia with drones and missiles.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Associated Press, Mysterious attacks on oil tankers near the strategic Strait of Hormuz this week show how one of the world’s crucial chokepoints for global energy supplies can be easily targeted, 30 years after the U.S. Navy and Iran were entangled in a similarly shadowy conflict called the “Tanker War.” While the current tensions are nowhere near the damage done then, it underscores how dangerous the situation is and how explosive it can become. The so-called “Tanker War” involved American naval ships escorting reflagged Kuwaiti oil tankers through the Persian Gulf and the Strait after Iranian mines damaged vessels in the region. It culminated in a one-day naval battle between Washington and Tehran, and also saw America accidentally shoot down an Iranian passenger jet, killing 290 people. U.S. estimates suggest Iran attacked over 160 ships in the late 1980s confrontation.

Third, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Times of Israel, Israeli planes carried out multiple airstrikes in the Gaza Strip early Friday, hours after a rocket hit a religious school in southern Israel. The Israeli military said in a statement that fighter jets and other aircraft attacked “several terror targets, including terror infrastructure in military compounds.” Israel Defense Forces said it also hit a base belonging to the Hamas terror group’s naval commando unit.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of TROUBLING TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS — According to China Daily, There was a time when cash was king, but a growing number of businesses worldwide are now refusing to accept payment with bank notes or coins. In the United States, the move toward a cashless society has sparked a backlash amid fears that digital payments marginalize the poor, especially the 8.4 million households that do not have a bank account or access to a credit card. China’s central bank has cracked down on merchants who refuse to accept cash. But the move comes as the nation’s digital economy accelerates, with 1 billion people regularly paying for items on their mobile phones. Sweden could be completely cashless by 2023, but about 1 million Swedes are not ready for digital payments. In the US, San Francisco voted to require brick-and-mortar retailers to accept cash, joining Philadelphia and New Jersey. Last month, two major US companies, Amazon and the Sweetgreen salad chain, said they would start accepting cash at their physical locations.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISEASE & PESTILENCE — According to CNN, Ugandan authorities beefed up border controls and banned public gatherings in the region affected by Ebola on Thursday, confirming a second death after the disease was first detected in the country this week. The country’s health ministry said that a 50-year-old grandmother had died on Wednesday evening after arriving in Uganda on June 10 from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Ebola has killed more than 1,300 people since August. The woman’s 5-year-old grandson also died from the disease and his 3-year-old brother was confirmed to have contracted Ebola. The health ministry said that there were three suspected cases not related to the family and their blood samples had been sent for testing. Uganda’s Ministry of Health said, “The outbreak is REAL and we urge all residents of Uganda to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:29-30 which reads: “In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Jeremiah talks about the changing of a common proverb. In verse 29, he talks about the proverb that is destined to be removed. Again he starts out with a timing element: “In those days,” which sets the context as the prophetic future, in this case, the kingdom period. The proverb that will change is this: “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.” Apparently this was a common proverb at that time, for it is also mentioned by Jeremiah’s contemporary in Ezekiel 18. The proverb refers to children being punished for the sins of their fathers, or the sins of the fathers being visited upon innocent children. But these children were not innocent, and this proverb was a misinterpretation of a principle found in the Mosaic law. This principle states that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children and upon the children’s children down to the third and the fourth generations. It is true that the sins of the fathers were involved in God’s judgments upon Israel, but the children were also guilty. They claimed they were innocent, but they were not. The reason the sins of the fathers are being visited upon the children is because the children were also guilty of the same sins. However, that proverb will change in the future kingdom. In verse 30, Jeremiah reveals that the new proverb is going to be based upon the principle that “everyone will die for his own iniquity.” The new proverb will be that “each man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from G. Campbell Morgan. He said, “To me the second coming is the perpetual light on the path which makes the present bearable. I never lay my head on the pillow without thinking that perhaps before the morning breaks, the final morning may have dawned. I never begin my work without thinking that He may interrupt my work and begin His own. This is now His word to all believing souls, ‘Till I come.’ We are not looking for death, we are looking for Him.”

Humans Are Living in an Age of ‘Apocalypse Anxiety’ (Second Coming Watch #874)

Daniel Whyte III
Daniel Whyte III

First, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the UK’s Metro newspaper, humans are living in an age of ‘apocalypse anxiety’ and will never stop worrying about doomsday. Some fear doomsday will come when climate change melts the ice caps and rising seas swallow our civilisation. And if that doesn’t happen, a killer computer will wipe us off the planet – as long as we manage to survive the inevitable nuclear war or global pandemic that could come first. Many predictions of the future have one common theme: we’re doomed and human civilisation is going to end any day now. Modern secular society is as riven with fears about the end of the world as the more religious societies our ancestors lived in, with science offering a whole new set of plausible-sounding doomsday scenarios to worry about.

Second, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Washington Times, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif said on Sunday that his nation has the right to defend itself against U.S. aggression and specifically vowed that Tehran will use “whatever missiles it wants” as a deterrence against increased American military presence in the region. In an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” program, Zarif defended the arming of small Iranian boats with cruise missiles. Such boats were cited as part of the justification last month for the movement of U.S. troops, ships and planes to the Middle East. Zarif said, “These ships are located very close to our waters, we have the right to put whatever missiles we want to put on them,” he said.

Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Tsarizm, Russian Foreign Minister Ser-gei Lav-rov has declared that the Western, liberal model of society is dying, and a new world order is taking its place. Lavrov made the comments at his annual meeting with students and professors at the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy. Lavrov said, “The Western liberal model of development, which particularly stipulates a partial loss of national sovereignty – this is what our Western colleagues aimed at when they invented what they called globalization – is losing its attractiveness and is no more viewed as a perfect model for all. Moreover, many people in the very western countries are skeptical about it.”

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to The Los Angeles Times, a swarm of earthquakes has shown remarkable staying power in the area around the city of Fontana in Southern California. And the likelihood of a larger seismic event, given how many quakes that have occurred over such an extended period, is higher than normal. Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson said, “People ought to be concerned. This is probably the most prolific swarm in that area that we’ve seen in the past three decades.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to the Jerusalem Post, the US ambassador to Israel said he believes the Jewish state has the right to annex at least “some” of the West Bank, in comments likely to deepen Palestinian opposition to a long-awaited US peace plan. In an interview published by the New York Times on Saturday, Ambassador David Friedman said that some degree of annexation of the West Bank would be legitimate. Friedman said the Obama administration, by declining to veto and thus allowing passage of a United Nations resolution in 2016 that condemned Israeli settlements as a “flagrant violation” of international law, had given credence to Palestinian claims “that the entire West Bank and East Jerusalem belong to them.” To the contrary, he said, “Certainly Israel’s entitled to retain some portion of it.”

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:27-28 which reads: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

In Jeremiah 31:27, the prophet states that God will “sow” both houses of Israel, for both houses are destined for restoration into one nation. The words “Behold, the days are coming” put this passage into the prophetic future, and God goes on to say that He “will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah.” The concept of sowing was a figure of both judgment and blessing. Just as God has sown the houses of Israel and Judah in judgment, he will also sow them in blessing. Both of those concepts are also described in Hosea 2:21-23. Verse 28 emphasizes the watching of God, building upon God’s earlier words to Jeremiah: “I am watching over my word to perform it.” Jeremiah points out that God will watch over His word of judgment against Israel: “to pluck up, to break down, to overthrow, to destroy and to bring disaster?’ Now that is going to change. Now God is going to watch over His word of blessing as well, “to build and to plant” the houses of Israel.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Ousting of ISIS celebrated, but terror group not likely to vanish (Second Coming Watch #873)

1. U.S.-backed Syrian forces celebrated in the devastated streets of Raqqa on Tuesday after gaining control of the northern city that once was the heart of the Islamic State’s self-styled caliphate, dealing a major defeat to the extremist group that has seen its territory shrink ever smaller since summer.

2. North Korea warned that a nuclear war “may break out any moment” as the U.S. and South Korea began one of the largest joint naval drills off both the east and west coasts of the peninsula.

3. Instability is set to follow the all-but-certain collapse of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. While the militants have now lost their self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa and are battling to hang on to relatively small pockets of territory, few expect ISIS to completely go away, or for the bloodshed in the two countries and the region to end quickly.

4. China is proving that it is serious about its newest restrictions on religion. This week, a Chinese house church pastor, her daughter, and her young grandson were arrested, weeks after being accused of overstepping the country’s newly tightened religious restrictions.

5. U.S. President Donald Trump struck a blow against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement last week in defiance of other world powers, choosing not to certify that Tehran is complying with the deal in a major reversal of U.S. policy.

Threat of Nuclear War; Earthquake in Mexico (Second Coming Watch Update #869)

First, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to the Associated Press, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned the world’s leaders that the threat of a nuclear attack is at its highest level since the end of the Cold War and that “fiery talk can lead to fatal misunderstandings.” In his first state-of-the-world report since taking the reins of the United Nations on January 1, Guterres put “nuclear peril” as the leading threat, warning that “we must not sleepwalk our way into war.” The U.N. chief told the General Assembly’s annual ministerial meeting that millions are living in fear “under a shadow of dread cast by the provocative nuclear and missile tests” of North Korea.

Second, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to CNN, Rescue workers are continuing to search for dozens of people feared buried in Mexico City among hundreds of buildings destroyed by the country’s most lethal earthquake in a generation. The magnitude 7.1 quake on Tuesday killed at least 217 people, nearly half of them in the capital, 32 years to the day after a devastating 1985 quake. The disaster came as Mexico was still reeling from a powerful tremor that killed nearly 100 people in the south of the country less than two weeks ago.

Third, today, under the Sign category of THE TURMOIL IN ISRAEL & THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Washington Post, Israel has flexed its military muscles in recent months as the regional balance of power has pitched further in favor of its most bitter adversaries — Iran and its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah. Analysts and former senior Israeli military officers say Israel is showing that it will act with force to protect its interests, while using just enough of it to limit its enemies without sparking a war. But it’s a precarious line to tread, and even a small misstep could lead to conflict. Israel is scrambling to adjust as Syrian President Bashar Assad has taken the upper hand in his country’s six-year war, propped up by an emboldened Iran and an array of Shiite militias, including Hezbollah, which has sent thousands of fighters to back him. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly criticized a U.S.-Russia cease-fire deal in southern Syria for not including provisions to stop Iranian expansion. Meanwhile, Israel is making its presence felt. Last week Israeli jets buzzed so low over southern Lebanon that they shattered windows and caused panic. That followed the bombing of a military site in Syria earlier in the month that had been linked to missile production for Hezbollah. And, on Tuesday, the army used a Patriot missile to shoot down a drone that neared its airspace.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED NATURAL DISASTERS — According to The Washington Post, after mauling Puerto Rico, Hurricane Maria delivered a punishing blow to the Dominican Republic with winds near 115 mph and driving rains as the storm carved an arc of misery through the Caribbean. Maria — now a Category 3 hurricane — was expected to gather some fresh strength over open water before taking aim at the Turks and Caicos Islands, which were battered earlier this month by Hurricane Irma on its deadly path toward Florida. Seven deaths have been blamed on Maria, an entire island is without power, and the mass of devastation it leaves behind will further compound already strained relief efforts in the region.

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to the Associated Press, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un lobbed a string of insults at President Donald Trump on Friday in a speech during which he also hinted at a frightening new weapon test. It was the first time for a North Korean leader to issue such a direct statement against a U.S. president, dramatically escalating the war of words between the former wartime foes and raising the international nuclear standoff to a new level. Kim said his country will consider the “highest level of hard-line countermeasures in history,” a possible indication of more powerful weapons tests on the horizon. His foreign minister, when asked during a visit to the U.N. General Assembly what the countermeasure would be, said his country may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 31:15-22 which reads in part: “Thus saith the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

This passage concludes with a call to repentance. Verse 21 begins with a plea to return to the ancient paths: “Set up for yourself roadmarks, place for yourself guideposts; direct your mind to the highway, the way by which you went.” God calls upon Israel to “return, O virgin of Israel”—to be repentant, to be converted. God continues, “How long will you go here and there, O faithless daughter?” In Hosea 1-3, the prophet Hosea speaks of Israel as a divorced wife returning to her husband. Jeremiah 2:20 speaks of Israel as playing the prostitute, and Jeremiah 3:1-10 points out that Israel was divorced by God because of her prostitution. In Hosea 2:19-20, Israel has yet to return to her husband, which will prove to be “a new thing in the earth—a woman will encompass a man.” The promise is that the weak female will embrace the strong male. Israel, the wife of Jehovah, will embrace the Lord, her strong Husband, and they will have a reunion someday.

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our Second Coming quote for today is from Billy Graham. He said, “Bible teaching about the Second Coming of Christ used to be thought of as ‘doomsday’ preaching. But not anymore. It is the only ray of hope that shines as an ever brightening beam in a darkening world.”

Let’s Pray
